My homelab

You are viewing a note. This page may change often.

My homelab is a Dell Optiplex 5050 that I bought used for about $150 from a local shop called Sherwood Computers. It’s been great, and I recommend the shop!

The machine has an i5-7500 processor with 16GB of memory, which is a tremendous amount of power for my modest needs. It also has a relatively small form factor, so it’s easy to tuck away in the corner of an office or a closet.

The machine is running Debian with no desktop environment. It’s headless (there is no monitor connected), and I access it over SSH.

I use it primarily for remote development as well as to learn and have fun.
